IRISH CULTURAL SOCIETY MEETING - October 18, 2009 The October meeting of the Irish Cultural Society was called to order byvice-president, Lou Kelley, at 3:09pm. Sister Carmel led us in the invocation. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. Bob Barron gave the treasurer’s report for the month ending September 30, 2009. Lou reminded us that there will be an audit at the end of the year. Kay Delaney gave the membership report. We had 23 members and 2 guests in attendance. Sheila Carolla, programs chair, explained the Irish bingo game she had devised for our entertainment today. She reminded us of our scheduled programs, the one in November being presented by Milo Kearney and Jane McDaniel returning to do some storytelling in December. Sheila and Kay are researching t-shirts for the ICS, comparing pricing and quality. Sheila brought seven of the original t-shirts with her today, all in a large size, if anyone wanted to buy one. She reiterated the dates for our three big ICS events coming up Little Christmas on January 8th 2010 at the Old San Francisco Steakhouse, Irish Heritage Day at SACC’s Loftin Student Center on February 28th, and the St. Patrick’s Day dance on March 27th here at St. Gregory’s. Lou reminded us that all that information is on the Irish Cultural Society website at http://www.irishculturalsociety.com should we need to refer to it. If you are interested in being involved with the Harp and Shamrock Society for the Founder’s Day events on October 24th, please contact Joan Moody. Also, Carolyn Dowd is again in charge of their St. Patrick’s Day parade. Sheila asked for suggestions for this year’s holiday charity. Bob Barron announced that Notre Dame will be playing Washington State in San Antonio on October 31st. There will be a Mass beforehand at San Fernando Cathedral. The Notre Dame band will be marching from the Cathedral to the Alamodome. There will be a pep rally at 7pm on Friday night. Pat O’Brien’s is offering an all you can eat BBQ for $10 a person. Marion asked for an update on scholarship and Lou complied with a brief explanation and referred us to the website for specific information. The meeting was adjourned at 3:35pm to be followed by refreshments and the Irish bingo game. Respectfully submitted, Susan S. Feeley Secretary |
