IRISH CULTURAL SOCIETY MEETING - September 17, 2006 The meeting of the Irish Cultural Society was called to order at 3:15 PMby President, Gene Logan. Minutes of the June meeting were read by Susan Feeley and were approved as read. A suggestion was made by Gene to begin the regular monthly Sunday meetings at 3 PM instead of 4 PM whenever possible. The membership voted in favor of this. The meeting time will be stated in the regular newsletter, as it may vary depending upon the availability of St. Gregory's hall. Gene gave a brief overview of the goals for the coming year, which include possible fund raising and possible programs. The Christmas Party will be held Dec. 1st. in the Phoenician Ballroom at St. George's Marionite Church. Details will be forthcoming at a later date. Several vacant officer and chair-person positions were filled: Lou Kelley was nominated and approved for the office of Vice-President. Joan Moody graciously volunteered for the position of Public Relations chair-person, as did Santos and Rosemary Delaney for the position of Program and Plans chair-persons. Bob Barron brought to our attention the removal to storage of the British, Welsh, and Irish objects and artifacts that were on display at the Institute of Texan Cultures. The display and storage of the Irish Cross is of particular concern. He was informed the ITC will be going to a "functional" mode of display, such as grouping objects by function, such as transportation, farming, etc. A petition was made available for the membership to sign to have these objects put back on display. A brief mention of some of the events which will be on our forthcoming calendar was made as follows: Noel Henry Dance-will have name change March 24, 2007 Irish Heritage Day March 11, 2007----tenative date St. Patrick' Day Parade, Festival Highlands Day, and San Antonio Founder's Day dates will be given at a later time. Lou Kelley gave www.irishculturalsociety.com as the (society's) official website. A new member, Mary Carpenter joined the Society. A motion was made and approved to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 3:50 PM, followed by the program, a performance by the Inishfree Irish School of Dance. Submitted by, Maxine Dulany ICS Secretary |
