IRISH CULTURAL SOCIETY MEETING - FEBRUARY 17, 2008 The meeting of the Irish Cultural Society was called to order at3:15 PM by Gene Logan, President. Minutes of the January meeting, taken and read by Susan Feely, were accepted. The treasurer’s report was given by Bob Barron. The balance as of January 31, 2008 is $6,509.21. The membership chairman, Kay Delaney, reports that some new members have joined the ICS. There are still some outstanding dues that need to be paid immediately, if not sooner. Gene reported on the Program and Planning status. March will be Irish Heritage Day. At the April meeting an author will give the program. There are still openings for May and June. Susan Feeley reports work in progress for the Scholarship Committee. OLD BUSINESS There is a new location for the Irish Heritage Day. It will be held at the Leon Valley Community Center on March 9. (2008) The Noel Henry Dance will be March 29 at St. Mark’s Hall, 1602 Thousand Oaks Drive. March 30 is the date for the fund-raiser for the Sisters. Sister Carmel encouraged the members to buy tickets for this event. Bob Slattery wants to know if anyone is interested in participating in the Irish Day Parade. Last year only 5 people participated, Bob Slattery has been chosen "Irishman of the Year". Also at the January 4 Christmas party Bob Slattery and Lou Kelley were recognized for their long years of service to the Irish Cultural Society. There was no further business, The meeting was adjourned at 3:45 PM. A program on the Irish influence on politics in the USA was given by John Burke from the Department of Political Science at the University of St. Thomas in Houston.
