IRISH CULTURAL SOCIETY MEETING - October 15, 2006 The meeting of the Irish Cultural Society was called to order at 5:15 PM by President Gene Logan, following a musical program presented by the San Antonio Pipes and Drums. Forty five members were present. There were seven guests in attendance. Gene advised members to carefully read the November newsletter as the November meeting will be held in the residential house down the street from St. Gregory’s hall. The minutes were read and corrections were made regarding the place and day of the Christmas Party. It will be held on Saturday, Dec 2 at the OLD SAN FRANCISCO STEAKHOUSE. Details will be forthcoming in the November newsletter. The Annual Treasurer’s Report for the 12months ending Sept.30, 2006 was given by Treasurer, Bob Slattery. The ending cash amount is $5,677.74. For further details. Please refer to the Treasurer’s Report sheet that was handed out to the membership. Also the Annual Budget was presented to the membership. Bob clarified some items in the budget----one of these being the Scholarship Fund which has not been paid out in three years. Lou Kelley explained that the essays submitted by potential awardees have been plagiarized. The applicants for the $500 award are required to write a 500 word essay on a person of Irish ancestory, detailing their accomplishments . There was also a question regarding the item of “Irish Children”. Bob says that is a mistake and to leave it in. There was no further discussion, and a motion was made and seconded to approve the Annual Budget. The budget was unanimously approved. Gene asked for suggestions for ways to retain new people. One suggestion was for us to participate more in the Harp and Shamrock activities. The Program and Plan committee report that the program for next month is on track. Joan Moody, Publicity Chairman has been successful in getting notices of ICS events printed in the San Antonio Express News. Maura has been able to obtain two $400 Southwest Airline tickets for the Irish Heritage Day raffle. There was no further business. The meeting was adjourned at 5:50 PM.
